CTiS Christmas Events

Christmas Angels

This is an idea that started in Tynemouth in 2015, which we in Churches Together in Shirley and District are hoping to try out this year in our area.  See www.christmasangel.net for more details.

The aim is share God’s love and to bless the community in public places and community spaces with the Christmas message.

The idea is to make knitted angels, attach a tag with an encouraging message, and then to leave them around in the area, attached to railings, door handles etc for others to find.

If you would like to take part in this then please let us know at ctissouthampton@gmail.com .  We have a suitable knitting pattern available.

All I want for Christmas is Ewe

The ‘All I want for Christmas is Ewe’ event will follow the same format as previous years:

  • A sheep hunt in the Shirley shops from December 1-16th
  • A Christmas Crafts event at Shirley Baptist Church in the afternoon Saturday December 16th.  This will be followed by:
  • Glow Stick Parade and Carol Singing in Shirley precinct with the Salvation Army Band.
  • After the carol singing there will be refreshments back at Shirley Baptist Church.

The Church in Shirley and Freemantle serving the community

CTiS churches are involved in a variety of activities that reflect our mission, which is to be a community of people, who follow Christ, worshipping God, studying the Bible, making disciples and demonstrating his love to everyone in the community in practical ways.

A document with a list of these activities can be downloaded here.

We cover all age groups from toddlers to the elderly.  We hope you will enjoy browsing through the list and maybe find something that you would like to come along to.  Please feel very welcome to contact the people named on the list entry for more information.  Alternatively find out more by visiting the relevant website.  Please note that hard copies of the list in booklet form are available via the CTiS secretary.

Whilst great care has been taken in producing this list, if you come across a mistake, or the details for any activity change, please email the change to the CTiS secretary as soon as possible. Similarly, please provide us with details of new activities and those that come to an end.  The list on the website will be continuously updated and a new print run will be done at intervals.

Healing on the Streets in Shirley

Healing on the Streets takes place on the second Saturday of each month in Shirley Precinct between 10.30 and 12 o’clock.  People are given the opportunity to receive prayer for healing or any other area of their life.  The HOTS scheme was started by a Vineyard church in Ireland and happens in many towns around the country including other parts of Southampton.

HOTS in Shirley started in May 2011 as an initiative of Churches Together in Shirley and District.  Hundreds of people have been prayed for, and many have clearly experienced God’s healing touch.  There have also been great opportunities to share the good news of the Christian message and some folk have come to faith.

If you need prayer for healing please come along one Saturday morning.

The HOTS team would like to expand to cover more Saturdays each month.  If you would like to join this valuable ministry, please contact Michael or Margaret Rothery (e-mail mnrothery@btinternet.com , Tel: 023 8036 0086)

New Song Café

St James Road Methodist Church

St James Road Southampton SO15 5HE

Second Sunday of each month 7 pm – 9 pm

New Song Cafe meets monthly, on the second Sunday of each month at 7.00 pm in the evening. It is where we gather to get to know songs, and one another, in an atmosphere of friendship and worship. If you are new to church, perhaps dipping your toe in the water, it’s a great place to explore, chat and make friends.

Tea, coffee and cake are served upon arrival. The first half starts with up to 6 songs then a break for more coffee and cake then a few more songs. Of these songs a couple will be “new" and we will revisit the “new” songs from the previous month. The evening is Interspersed with video, prayer, an opportunity to share, or perhaps a brief thought for the day. Each month the songs we propose to sing are published on our Facebook page and, where available, YouTube links accompany them. This gives those attending a chance to listen first. The evening starts at 7pm and finishes by 9pm.
